In any cheerios snack mix recipe, I will inevitably find them and pick out every single one to eat for myself. I’m basically a toddler. Don’t take my Cheerios.

So why not make an entire snack mix full of super yummy, flavorful Cheerios. Specifically buttery, cinnamon Cheerios. It’s the obvious choice. These are so good, so addicting and so easy to make. All you need is 5 simple ingredients plus a skillet and you can have your own buttery cinnamon cheerios snack mix.

These went really quickly in our house. A handful here, a handful there. Perfect snack mix for tv watching or just walking through the kitchen.

The ingredients are simple for these Buttered Cinnamon Cheerios. Only 5 ingredients in this recipe, in fact. I bet you already have all of them in your kitchen already.

  • Cheerios (original whole grain version)
  • butter ( use salted butter)
  • vanilla (pure vanilla extract is the way to go)
  • sugar (good old white granulated sugar)
  • cinnamon (ground cinnamon, nothing fancy needed)

What are the steps for Buttered Cinnamon Cheerios?

Not only are the ingredients simple for this snack mix recipe, but the steps to make it are pretty darn simple too.

Variations and Ways to Change up Buttered Cinnamon Cheerios Snack Mix

So many easy and delicious ways to change up this Cheerios Snack Mix Recipe.

Change the Flavor of Cheerios: Honey Nut, Honey Vanilla, Strawberry, Frosted, Cinnamon, Medley Crunch, Blueberry, Apple Cinnamon

Change out the Cinnamon: Instead of cinnamon, use pumpkin spice, cloves, nutmeg, orange peel, lemon peel

Use a new Cereal: Here are some other types of cereals that work well for this recipe: Honeycomb, Chex, Frosted Flakes, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Kix, or Life Cereal.

Add ins: After transferring the cereal to a bowl, try adding some of these fun add ins: chocolate chips, m&ms, peanuts, sprinkles, powdered sugar, pretzels

Make it Savory: Instead of vanilla and cinnamon, try adding Worcestershire to the butter then garlic and onion to the bowl. Or hot sauce to the butter and then paprika to the bowl.

Quick Tips to Make the Best Cheerios Snack Mix

  • Melt the butter on a low heat. Melt it slow. Cooking too fast may result in brown butter. I love brown butter and all, but that’s not the flavor we are going for.
  • Take your time to make sure all the Cheerios are covered in the melted butter before transferring it to a bowl.
  • Add a small amount of sugar and cinnamon over the Cheerios and stir. Then add more cinnamon and sugar, stir again. Doing this is small increments will help to get all the cereal coated.

  4. Awesome flavor! A hit at the meeting I took them to. One quick question about the savory hot sauce variation. How much hot sauce to the butter?

    1. So happy you liked them! For the hot sauce variation- I would start with 1 Tablespoon and then taste it to see if you want more kick before adding the cheerios.
